Re-working the Conflict Spiral
6 Hour Course
A course designed to break the cycle of challenging behaviour in schools. Staff trying to manage behaviour without taking into account the experiences and feelings of the child.
By increasing empathy and understanding, changing our own perceptions and the way we respond to challenging behaviour we can reduce conflict and improve that child's experiences. Thus making them feel safer and calmer, and reducing challenging behaviour.

Seeing beyond the behaviour caused by Early Developmental Trauma
2 hr Bite-size course
This course aims to give delegates the skills to identify potential traumas or experiences that have impacted upon a child’s early development. It uses knowledge of the Neuroaffectice Relational Model to identify 5 different early life experiences and the behaviours and personality traits used to mask the child’s true emotions. It will help signpost what is driving the child’s challenging behaviour and give staff better understanding of what techniques to focus on to improve child’s behaviour and well-being.

Repairing developmental Trauma
2 Hour Bite-size course
This course describes the 3 step programme designed by Dr Bruce Perry to repair early trauma. It focusses on children who have suffered emotional neglect that has impacted the bonding process in infancy. This inhibits the child’s ability to trust others, to self soothe/regulate and social skills to help them belong in a group. Through a planned programme we can help repair and improve the child's responses.

Behaviour as a communication/ De-escalation
1-2 Hour Bite-size Course
This course focusses on how staff reactions impact situations. How they can be calmed or escalated. It looks at how behaviours are sometimes perceived incorrectly and the root cause may be masked by poor behaviour. It will look at consequences and how they can be more effectively used to make behavioural mistakes into learning opportunities. It looks at the feelings that lead to aggressive behaviour and how each incident involving aggression should be given context.

Post incident learning and planning
1-2 Hour Bite-size Course
This course focusses on looking at stages of behaviour for children and how they escalate. Will look at ways to prevent the difficulties as well as identifying strategies to prevent situations developing. Will cover what can be done both pre and post incident to break behaviour cycles.

Additional needs and how they impact on self esteem and behaviour
1-2 Hour Bite-size Course
This course explores additional needs like ASD, ADHD, PDA and attachment and how they impact on behaviour and self-esteem. How often the child’s behaviours are related to perceptions of situations and misunderstandings. How they are often not in control. It will look at communication strategies for children with additional needs and how to build self esteem and control over their behaviour and learning.

ROASA - Support App
Roots of Aggression Signposting App
So often we hear the phrase 'He just kicked off for no reason', but the truth is there is usually an explanation for this type of behaviour and having a better understanding of the features/traits that underpin this can help to formulate a way to bring change. Although the Roots of Aggression Signposting App (ROASA) has not been designed by a psychologist and does not seek to diagnose children, it is the result of years of experience gained whilst working in an SEMH setting and additionally by providing outreach support in mainstream settings. This included working with and supporting, children who demonstrated a broad range of complex additional needs and attachment and mental health challenges. It has been designed to give education professionals ideas and direction when a child's behaviour is aggressive and the cause isn't obvious.
Information in the app is supported by years of de-escalating aggression day to day and hours of research behind the scenes to find the causes that underpin these behaviours. No child starts out bad or naughty so something must have happened along the way. So often this is buried deep in their past which can make it very difficult for educators to pinpoint.
The ROASA app is not a diagnostic tool and is not a replacement for services. It won't fix the problem but it will potentially give guidance as to where to look and help signpost the root cause of the behaviour. Additionally, it may help staff to empathise better with the child and offer some direction on the next course of action.
The ROASA app uses knowledge of working with hundreds of children with social, emotional, mental health, additional learning needs and attachment theory to signpost 10 different roots of the child's aggression. It facilitates this by using the answers to between 4 and 20 questions that focus not only on the child's behaviour in certain situations, but also, more importantly, on their personality. To be effective it will require good knowledge of the child as well as the skill to be able to see beyond the behaviour that a child/children use to mask their true feelings.
